Launch of Governance Tracker: CRiG.ng
Governments have been requested to lower the cost of government in the nation, including the retinue of appointees as well as the number of pecks of office. Kenneth Eze, the Lead Director of the non-governmental organisation Speak Out Africa Project, told journalists in Abuja that the government must now go beyond politics and lower the cost of governance.
- “Re-echo the Call to prune and streamline Cabinet Ministers’ list to 36
maximum, says cost of running office of a minister too high while
asking the Nominees to Declare their Asset publicly before office;
- Demand Withdrawal of Ministerial Nominees from 3 States for
Contravening Federal Character Principle, and ask National Assembly
not to Consider, Screen or Confirm Nominees if the status quo subsist;
- Call for more inclusion of youth in the awaiting cabinet ministers’ list
from 11 states as current percentage is not encouraging;
- Bemoan NASS on 5.5b proposed Pension payment to 13 serving
Senators as Ex-Governors’; advise them to turn-down double earnings
given current economic reality;
- Frown at some state Governors who prioritize political appointees remuneration over civil servants; calls the action self-serving, anti-productive and unjustifiable.
