...CSO; SOAI sues Nigerian Correctional Service over FAILURE to Publish profile details of Suleja Jailbreak Escapees 28 days after. Cites breach of NCS act, Institutional lapses and public safetyย concerns.
The Civil Society Organization, Speak Out Africa Initiative (SOAI), has taken legal action against the Nigerian Correctional Service over the failure to publish the profile details of escapees from the Suleja Jailbreak, which occurred 28 days ago.
Despite repeated calls for transparency and public safety, the Nigerian Correctional Service has not released any information regarding the identities of the escapees. This lack of information has raised significant concerns about institutional lapses and the potential risks posed to public safety.
SOAI's lawsuit highlights the critical need for accountability and transparency in the management of correctional facilities. The organization emphasizes that the public has a right to know the details of individuals who have escaped from custody, as this information is crucial for ensuring community safety and aiding law enforcement efforts.
"We cannot afford to be in the dark about the identities of those who have escaped from a correctional facility," stated Kenneth Eze, the Lead Director of SOAI. "This information is essential for the safety of our communities and for holding our institutions accountable."
SOAI is calling for the immediate release of the escapee details to the public and is urging the government to provide daily briefings to track progress in recapturing the escapees. The organization believes that only through transparency and proactive communication can the public's trust be restored and safety ensured.
