16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence

The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign from November 25th, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, to December 10th, Human Rights Day. This year, Speak Out Africa Initiative took bold steps to advocate, educate, and engage in meaningful actions to end violence against women and girls. Below are the highlights of our impactful activities during this global campaign.

Roadshow: International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (November 25th)

We launched the 16 Days of Activism with a vibrant roadshow from the Federal Secretariat to the Ministry of Women Affairs in Abuja, Nigeria. This procession was aimed at raising awareness and calling for collective action against gender-based violence.


Advocacy Visit to the National Assembly (November 26th)

On the second day, we joined the Ministry of Women Affairs in a rally to the National Assembly. Accompanied by the Honorable Minister, we advocated for enhanced legislation and enforcement of laws to protect women and girls from violence.

X (Twitter) Space: Rethinking Power Dynamics in GBV Solutions (November 27th)

We hosted an X (Twitter) Space discussion titled: "Rethinking Power Dynamics: Community-Led Solutions to GBV through Gatekeepers and Key Stakeholders." The session featured sharing of strategies for grassroots solutions to GBV.

Celebrating GBV and Women Defenders (November 29th)

On this day, we honored individuals and organizations championing the fight against gender-based violence and defending the rights of women and girls. This event was a tribute to their resilience, courage, and dedication to creating a better world.

Upcoming Activities

World AIDS Day (December 1st)
We will commemorate World AIDS Day, focusing on the intersection of HIV/AIDS and gender-based violence while spreading awareness and solidarity. Social Media Tags: #WorldAIDSDay #EndGBV #OrangeTheWorld

International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3rd)
On this day, we’ll highlight the unique challenges faced by women and girls with disabilities regarding GBV and advocate for inclusive solutions.

Community and IDP Camp Visits (December 10th)
To conclude the campaign, we will visit IDP camps, villages, and schools to share messages of hope, resilience, and empowerment. These engagements will include awareness sessions and the distribution of resources to the most vulnerable.
